To call Jonathan Akeroyd’s stint at Alexander McQueen a success would be a gross understatement. Over the course of his twelve years at the label, Akeroyd oversaw a massive expansion of the Kering-owned brand, launching fragrance and accessories lines alongside the McQ diffusion line while leading McQueen through the death of its beloved founder before appointing Sarah Burton to the role of creative director.

Now the former McQueen CEO is heading to Versace to take the same position. Akeroyd’s appointment will see him succeeding Gian Giacomo Ferraris — a major success in his own right who turned Versace around from €80 million EUR in losses in 2009 to €645 million EUR in profits last year. Akeroyd’s addition also comes at a time of major change for the iconic imprint after it announced eventual plans for an IPO following an added retail investment of €50 million EUR.

Said Donatella Versace of Akeroyd’s appointment:

Jonathan brings a proven track record in building global brands, steering growth and driving strategic development. Jonathan Akeroyd’s industry expertise and vision will be key to advancing the next phase of Versace’s development.

Akeroyd himself added:

I look forward to implementing a long-term business strategy that supports the visionary and creative direction of Donatella Versace and her team. This is an exciting opportunity to take Versace to even greater success.
