Stars of “The Colour Purple” Cynthia Erivo and Danielle Brooks were both nominated in the leading actress and featured actress categories, respectively for the 2016 Tony Awards and fellow actress Jennifer Hudson (who wasn’t nominated herself) congratulated them on Instagram: “Very proud and overwhelmed to say congrats to @cynthiaerivo @daniebb3 @color purple entire cast on tony nod ! One hell of a cast that’s for sure! Proud of you all!”

On the list, Pulitzer Prize winner, Lin-Manuel Miranda‘s blockbuster musical ‘Hamilton’ led the nominations. The musical has 16 nominations, including Best Musical and Acting for Miranda and his costars.

The 70th annual Tony Awards will be broadcast on CBS on Sunday, June 12 andJames Corden will host the show.
