National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), yesterday said that 15 persons lost their lives in the twin bomb blasts that rocked the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Friday night.
In a statement, the Senior Information Officer of the agency, Mr Sani Datti, confirmed seven persons dead in Nyanya, while 21 were injured. But in Kuje, 13 persons lost their lives and 20 were injured.
According to him, the 41 injured persons were evacuated to Nyanya and Asokoro General hospitals as well as National Hospital, Abuja.
Meanwhile, doctors at the hospital yesterday battled to save the life of a seventh month baby and thirteen others who sustained various degrees of injury in the bomb blasts.
Meanwhile the spokesman of the hospital, Dr Tayo Haastrup confirmed the casualty figures to journalists. He also said the hospital would be ready to hand over corpses to well identified relatives of the dead by Monday.
He said, “For now, nine bodies from both the Nyanya and the Kuje bomb blasts have been deposited in our hospital. Also, 13 people who were brought alive with various degrees of injury are also in our hospital.
“The good thing is that those who were injured are under stable health condition and are currently being treated. “By Monday or so, we will open the mortuary and call people to come and identify their loved ones,” Haastrup said.
