Amal Clooney is often seen (and her sartorial choices cataloged) rather than heard. But in a rare interview with the BBC, the human rights lawyer spoke about her new high-profile case, swiftly eviscerated Donald Trump, and proved, once again, that she’s an absolute boss.
Clooney granted the interview to discuss the case of her client, investigative journalist Khadija Ismayilova, who has been jailed in the former Soviet republic of Azerbaijan after reporting on government corruption. When asked about Azerbaijani media criticism that she took the case to further her own profile, she effortlessly shot it down. “I found the attacks quite laughable. In a way I should be reassured that if a government wants to find a way to attack me, that’s the best they can come up with,” Clooney said. “This is the first interview I’ve given about the case, actually. If I wanted fame, I probably would have been here a lot earlier.”
