If you follow The Rock on social media then you’ve been privy to some of his training sessions and workout pep talks. The man also known as Dwayne Johnson is inspiring, hilarious and – most importantly – goes hard AF. And who can deny the results, when his bulging biceps and tree-trunk thighs are staring us right in our jabroni faces?
1. Start early (really early)
As AskMen found out after a week of getting up with The Rock, the Hollywood hardman rises at 4am to start his workouts at the crack of dawn. And Williamson is much the same, scheduling our phone call at 5am his time. And no, they don’t necessarily go to bed early – hectic schedules means eight hours sleep is a rarity.
2. No fancy business…
“It really came down to your traditional weight training,” says Williamson. “[The Rock] and I are both meatheads at heart, we’re cut from that cloth of a bodybuilder mentality so we just go in and ground and pound and hit the weights and just destroy the body parts that we’re trying to train.”
3. …But always shake things up
No two sessions Williamson and The Rock did were the same: “It was just different angles, different exercises, varying the rep schemes,” he says. And you needn’t reach for the boulder-sized weights every single time, as Williamson says they didn’t always go super heavy. “Some days the reps might have been as low as five, some days it would be as high as fifty.”
