The Jama’atu Nasril Islam cleric, who was abducted on Wednesday, was freed by his captors on Friday evening. The Islamic cleric kidnapped on Wednesday, November 16, has been released.
The victim, Sheikh Abdulazeez Yusuf, was kidnapped on his way to Kaduna from Jos was said to have freed by his captors on Friday evening.
Yusuf is the Administrative Secretary of Jama’atu Nasril Islam(JNI).
The Secretary General of the group, Abubakar Khalid, who spoke to Channels TV said the cleric is in stable condition.
“We just secured the release of Shiekh Yusuf and we’re going to the JNI secretariat amidst tight security. He is in good condition and details will be made available by tomorrow (Saturday),” he said.
The kidnappers had earlier demanded N60 million in exchange for the Yusuf’s release.
It was, however, not certain if a ransom was paid to secure the cleric’s freedom.
