Gigi Hadid’s weight has oft been a headline topic as of late — reports came out that she had to wear a poncho in a Tommy Hilfiger show because she wasn’t “not quite as thin” prior to addressing criticism over looking too skinny. After the 21-year-old walked the Victoria’s Secret show — with her sister Bella, who has Lyme disease — viewers were quick to point out her body once again. She revealed to ELLE that after being diagnosed with thyroid disease two years ago, she’s struggled to maintain her weight.
“My metabolism actually changed like crazy this year. I have Hashimoto’s disease. It’s a thyroid disease, and it’s now been two years since taking the medication for it, so for the VS show I didn’t want to lose any more weight, I just want to have muscles in the right place, and if my butt can get a little perkier, then that’s good.”
Social media’s become a main stage for negativity to rear its judgmental head, and Gigi hosted a panel with Reebok where she said she’ll be taking a break from Instagram and Twitter to focus on herself and her family. Good on her to prioritize what matters most and focus only on positivity.
