Jada Pinkett Smith Urges Black Actors to Boycott the Oscars; Should We Show Similar Solidarity in Fashion?
To commemorate Martin Luther King Day, Jada Pinkett Smith took to Facebook to urge black actors to boycott the Oscars. Her reason? According to her, the annual awards ceremony rarely recognizes black actors for their achievements. She wrote, “At the Oscars…people of color are always welcomed to give out awards…even entertain, but we are rarely recognized for our artistic accomplishments. Should people of color refrain from participating all together? People can only treat us in the way in which we allow. With much respect in the midst of deep disappointment, Jada.”

World’s oldest man dies two months before his 113th birthday
Yasutaro Koide, born on March 13, died today at the age of 112. The Japanese who said his secret to a long life was not to smoke, drink or overdo it. Koide worked as a tailor when he was younger and was recognised by the Guinness World Records as the world’s oldest man in August 2015. (more…)
