West Africa declared Ebola-free

Liberia's Ebola epidemic is over, says the World Health Organization (WHO), effectively putting an end to the world's worst outbreak of the disease. The "end of active transmission" was declared, after 42 days without a new case in Liberia. It joins Guinea and Sierra Leone, which earned the status last year. However, the WHO warned that West Africa may see flare-ups of the virus. It has killed more than 11,000 people since December 2013. (more…)

Policemen on domestic errands or escorting unauthorised persons will be arrested- Mike Okiro

Former Inspector General of Police, and current Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Mike Okiro, yesterday said that policemen found on domestic errand or escorting unauthorised persons will be arrested. Okiro stated this in Abuja yesterday, January 13, while addressing some critical issues concerning the Nigeria Police Force. He said the the Police Service Commission has worked out a blueprint spelling out the duties of police officers attached to Very Important Personalities (VIPs) and that officers doing domestic job would not be tolerated anymore.

Man confesses to killing pregnant woman for ritual purposes(Photo)

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a 28-year old man, Edet Asuquo, from Ikot Otu in the Itu Local Government Area for allegedly murdering a pregnant woman. The deceased, who came from Cross River State and whose identity is unknown, was said to be a customer to Asuquo who deals in oysters. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Cordelia Nwawe, said on Wednesday that the suspect, having sold the first part of his seafood to the pregnant woman, lured her to his home claiming that he had abundance of oysters at a cheaper rate.
