Meet The 5 Nigerian Women in Tech Who Were Recently Honored by The American Embassy.

 

For a long time, the number of men in the tech industry has eclipsed the number of women.This trend has recently begun to reverse with a growing number of women pursuing technology careers. Five of these women were honored last week by the U.S. Embassy.

CAROLYN SEAMAN

A female techy who is using technology to empower girls through her Girls VoicesInitiative. The organization empowers girls to use digital literacy skills, journalistic and advocacy skills to make positive impacts in their communities in Nigeria.

 

DAMILOLA ANWO-ADE

Founded CodeIT, a platform that mentors the next generation of coders, including young women.

OLAMIDE AYENI-BABJIDE

A computer engineer who founded Pearl recycling – an initiative that aims to redefine local production from upcycled waste and increase internally generated income through waste upcycling.”

IJEOMA VINCENT-AKPU, AND

 

PETRA NNAMANI

A lecturer in the Department of Pharmaceutics, University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

 

These women will be participating in the TechWomen program, a U.S. initiative that empowers and connects the next generation of women leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) from Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. The program will bring together 100 women leaders in technology fields for a five-week professional mentorship and exchange program at leading technology companies in California’s Silicon Valley and the San Francisco Bay Are
