Galaxy S8 costs Samsung $307.50 to build

It appears that you might be paying $400 more for the new Galaxy S8, but did you know that it costs more to build than other phones from major competitors, which makes it the most expensive phone to build to date. According to an estimate released by IHS Markit, the Galaxy S8 costs Samsung $307.50 to build, more than Samsung’s previous devices —the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge— which reportedly costs $255.10 and $271.20 to make. Startup funding in Africa’s major tech hubs decline

Funding for Kenyan startups dropped from $47.3 million in 2015 to $10.5 million in 2016. After a decade of optimism, buzz around Kenya’s tech potential has waned, as many startups failed to become profitable or went bankrupt. Optimism was fueled by successes like mobile-money service M-Pesa and crowdsourced reporting and mapping platform Ushahidi, both created in Kenya a decade ago. (more…)
