So you guys know how the #OscarSoWhite was trending on twitter and the public outcry/confusion that came with it. To me the Oscars is just like a white version of the BET Awards, let me just say that I hate sorry dislike no, hold up I very much hate the BET but the idea behind it, is something i kind of respect. Well, with the #OscarsSoWhite going on I now understand why the BET was created.
You would think that in the 21 1st century, countries like the United States of America would not be discussing about the racism amongst races, especially when most americans have heritage from different countries. Thanks to Big Group, who created a visualisation infographic to show the ethnic diversity amongst Oscar nominees.
According to them, the #OscarsSoWhite trend has been the most covered topic this year so we wanted to take a quantitative look at the ethnicity of Oscar nominees in the six main categories ( Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress in a Leading Role, Best Actress in a Supporting Role, Best Actor in a Leading Role and Best Actor in a Supporting Role).
The infographic reduces each nominee since 1927 down to a single dot which has been coloured to denote their ethnicity. It shows a clear weighting towards white nominees and award winners since the inception of the award.
