Starbucks is definitely not a place where one would expect a beer and shot special, but the twin-tailed mermaid is slowly turning baristas into bartenders with its newest concoction. Dubbed the Espresso Cloud IPA, the caffeine overlord’s boozy beverage is created by blending shaken espresso, a can of craft IPA beer, and a handful of other ingredients. More specifically, Starbucks professes:
“Espresso is shaken over ice with orange pieces and a touch of sweet vanilla. Shaking the espresso produces a rich cloud of micro-foam with accents of citrus and vanilla. The foam is layered on top of a freshly poured IPA, and the beer is served with the cold-shaken espresso shot on the side. It’s a beautiful presentation with a fun twist, as pouring the shot over the beer creates a tantalizing, layered waterfall of espresso and craft beer in the glass.”
What’s more, it’s touted as a “first-of-its-kind Starbucks beverage” and is currently being served at approximately 440 Starbucks Evenings locations across the United States. Coffee guru Justin Burns-Beach of Starbucks’s Reserve Roastery & Tasting Room in Seattle is to blame for the ingenious mixture.
