I had a great time yesterday with some amazing people in Jos, Plateau State Nigeria, at the “Dinner With A Mentor” event that took place on the 6th of January, 2016. The venue was Southern Fried Chicken eatery.
So basically “Dinner With A Mentor” is an inspirational movement that seeks to empower the youths on how to go ahead with life while tackling all the difficulties one faces on the road to success. It tries to encourage the “you can do” mentality amongst our youths of today. And this brings me to the question, how many of you out there have a Ten year plan? Hmmm, better get a pen and start writing!
The event was so successful, that I am very certained I gain N10 Million in knowledge, but I won’t tell what I learnt instead you can read the profile the Mentor for yesterday’s program.
Kai Ahuoiza Orga is a Financial Planner, Wealth Advisor, Youth Development Specialist and Human Capital Development Specialist, Personal and Business Development Trainer and Coach. She holds an M.Sc. in Management and Information Systems (2003) from the Institute for Development Policy and Management (IDPM) Manchester – UK and a B.Sc. degree in International Studies (1997) Ahmadu Bello University, ABU – Zaria.
Her professional memberships include Institute of the Management of Information Systems, Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), African Society of International Studies. She is a Certified by the Centre for Management Development, Nigeria. Kai started working in the youth development sector since 2002 with LYNX (Linking Youth in Nigeria through exchange –US) volunteering and supporting youth based work. She continued to support and volunteer with LYNX (Linking Youth In Nigeria through Exchange – Nigeria since 2003 as a board member).
Kai has worked and volunteered for various charities in the United Kingdom. Including, CONTACT which is based in Manchester UK and their focus is to care for young women since 1970. While at CONTACT her main responsibilities included assisting young women develop life skills such as budgeting, education, self-care, applying for benefits and dealing with immigration procedures.
She is passionate about mentoring young people, supporting community development and initiating change at all levels. She is involved in/volunteered her time teaching young girls in secondary schools life skills, teaching entrepreneurship and citizenship with an aim to create change and impact them towards substantial change at all levels.
She returned to Nigeria and continued to work with several non for profit platforms and in 2009 she participated in the GOALS programme – teaching life skills to young girls through football). The project included teaching girls in JSS1 life skills including teaching entrepreneurship and citizenship with an aim to create change and impact them towards substantial change at all levels.
In view of her passion for mentoring individuals and young people and that every person allows themselves to maximize purpose and potential in fulfilling their destinies, supporting community development and initiating change at all levels.
she founded the CORE Development Initiative and the CORE Academy.
The CORE Development Initiative is a platform that focuses on Youth Development, Employability and Entrepreneurship. It assists young people to first discover their personal strengths, identify their talents and then matching these to employability and Entrepreneurial opportunities.
She has identified an employability product/ tool with 3 segments. The product is
Personal Development (Self-discovery of gifts and talents), Work Based Skills and Entrepreneurship.
Following the successful application of these, CORE then identifies and creates possible job and entrepreneurial opportunities by linking the trainees up with suitable employers and mentors in their chosen area.
The CORE Academy on the other hand is an employability school which provides hard and soft skills certification programmes. It trains, tests and certifies skills in career and enterprise development. The Academy is for young school leavers, fresh graduates, and employees in paid employment, entrepreneurs, prospective entrepreneurs, and business executives. Having worked in the financial services sector for over 15 years, she has significant experience in several sectors including the public, manufacturing, commercial, IT, Oil and Gas and service sectors of the economy.
Kai also possesses a wealth of experience in sales management, human and personnel development, the management of change and youth development and entrepreneurship development.
She also has extensive and substantial experience in customer relations and management, marketing, and business administration.
She has trained on subjects as diverse as Entrepreneurship, Choosing and Managing a Career, Personal Effectiveness, Teamwork, Customer service, Negotiation Skills, Staff Motivation, and Effective Salesmanship, leadership and corporate governance.
With a vast knowledge in management and consulting, she has consulted for several organizations and her competences cover the area of Organizational Change and development, business transformation, policy, finance and strategy.
