Solomon Dalung responds to the report that Mikel Obi paid $4000 to free squad after hotel officials held them to ransom over bills

John Mikel Obi reportedly paid $4000 to free the Olympic football squad after the team was held to ransom by hotel officials in Sao Paulo over bills incurred by additional NFF officials. Mikel Obi pays $4,000 to save Olympic football team from embarrassment at Brazil hotel

Chelsea star Mikel Obi has had to shell out $4,000 to ensure the Nigeria Olympic team caught their flight to Salvador after the hotel in Sao Paulo held the entire team to ransom . Players and officials of the Dream Team VI, were held to ransom in Sao Paulo, over unpaid bills incurred by additional officals. Organizers of the Games, insisted on a team of 25 players – 18 players and seven officials. (more…)

Fiji declares public holiday after winning first ever Olympic medal

The tiny pacific nation of Fiji has won its first ever Olympic medal after thumping Great Britain 43-7 in the rugby sevens final to scoop the gold medal. Wild celebrations erupted across the island nation as drivers leapt out of their cars and people took to the streets to wave the national flag, phone carriers offered free calls.  Fiji Airways, the national carrier, announced the only beer it will serve on today will be Fiji Gold, a popular local beverage; and the government declared August 22 a national holiday to mark the win. Michael Phelps breaks 2000 year old Olympic record

 As if to stamp his godlike authority on the Olympics for good measure, Michael Phelps has taken athletic achievement to Olympian heights by smashing a record that has remained untouched for two millennia. The American won his 22nd gold medal today, 9 have come from relays while 13 are individual triumphs. The 31-year-old swimmer won his 13th gold medal in the 200metres men's event to surpass the 2000-year record set by Greek Olympian, Leonidas of Rhodes who won 12 individual gold medals. Leonidas competed in four successive Olympiads in 164BC, 160BC, 156BC and 152B
