WAEC Declares 14.3% Increase in 2016 Performance as it Releases Best Result in 10 years

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) on Friday released the May/June 2016West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), and has today (Saturday) opened the portal for result checking. The Head of Nigeria National Office, Olu Adenipekun while briefing journalists said that 878,040 candidates, representing 52.97%, obtained credits in five subjects and above, including English Language and Mathematics as against 31.28% and 38.68% obtained in 2014 and 2015 respectively. Olympics: Toriola advances to Round 2 in Table Tennis, as Oshonaike & Offiong Crash Out

One Nigerian advanced on Saturday to the next round of his event in the table tennis competition of the Rio Olympic Games, while two others dropped to the sidelines. While Segun Toriola advanced to the second round in the male singles, Funke Oshonaike and Edem Offiong could only go beyond the preliminary round of the women’s singles. (more…)

NDLEA seizes 20 tonnes of illicit drugs from 87 suspects in Borno

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Borno says it has seized more than 20 tonnes of illicit drugs from 87 suspects within two years. The Commandant of the agency in Borno, Ona Ogilegwu, announced this in Maiduguri on Sunday during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), stating that the agency made the seizure in Maiduguri from 2014 till date. Gov. Aregbesola Calls for Ban on Export of Primary Farm Produce

Rauf Aregbesola Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun has called for a ban on the export of primary farm produce as part of strategies to ensure food sufficiency in the country. Aregbesola made the call in Osogbo on Sunday in a statement he issued by his media aide, Semiu Okanlawon.
