Death sentences passed on 66 Nigerian soldiers for mutiny, other charges, reduced to 10 years imprisonment each

The death sentences by firing squad passed on 66 soldiers in January and March 2015 by separate General Court Martials have been commuted to 10 years imprisonment each. I didn’t say petrol will sell for N97/litre -Kachikwu

Minister of State for Petroleum Resources Ibe Kachikwu has refuted media reports quoting him as saying that the gradual phasing out of the Subsidy scheme in 2016 will give rise to the increase in petroleum product to N97. Ibe was quoted to have said this during a meeting with the Senate this week. However at a media briefing in Abuja yesterday, Ibe said the federal government has no plans to raise the price of petrol from N87 to N97 per litre in 2016. (more…)

Court of Appeal nullifies Akwa Ibom governor’s election

The court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has nullified the election of the state Governor Emmanuel Udom. The five-man jury this afternoon upheld the petition of the APC candidate in the April 11th election Umana Umana who argued that the election of Governor Udom of the People’s Democratic Party did not conform to the electoral act. The court ordered a fresh election to be conducted within 90 days.
